Investing in the future

Dedicated to making the best use of the equipment available to a 21st century dental practice, Arjinder Chohan knew that without a Vatech imaging system he couldn’t fulfil his aim of offering his patients the finest treatment.

Arjinder and his partner, Dr Frances Carling-Thom, opened Tavistock Dental & Facial in Bloomsbury in 2010 with a clear vision:

‘To treat others as we would want to be treated ourselves. We understand that visiting the dentist is not the place that most patients would choose to be. We aim to make patients comfortable and deliver the best possible care. We believe in a team-based approach, so it is not uncommon for a team of specialists to be involved in delivering appropriate care for our patients.’

Arjinder has a particular interest in cosmetic dentistry and dental implants, saying,

‘Offering this type of dentistry is not only clinically challenging; the response we get from patients whose lives have changed as a result is greatly satisfying. The combination of these two factors makes me want to continue improving.’

THE PRACTICE

‘What is it that makes Tavistock different from other practices?’ says Arjinder: ‘That’s easy, the team we have! We have a great clinical team and a great support team. We work tirelessly to give patients the best possible service from the time they make their first appointment. This approach has seen our practice go from strength to strength.’

Based in central London, Tavistock Dental & Facial treats a broad spectrum of patients, which certainly keeps the day interesting for Arjinder and his team. Offering a variety of treatments and having put together a large team to meet the demands of a busy practice, the partners have invested heavily in equipment and training to ensure they can offer the best treatment to their patients.

3D IMAGING SYSTEM
Part of this investment was to purchase a 3D imaging system, which Arjinder chose to buy from Vatech, ‘There are many similar models but Mr Kim was the person we felt most comfortable dealing with. Also, I spoke to other satisfied customers and felt confident with Vatech.’ Now making good use of the Vatech system, Arjinder and his team have found that it offers a more efficient work flow, while patients are not inconvenienced by being sent to imaging centres.

Arjinder comments, ‘I also like to maintain control of taking the image, in case we are looking for something specific that may be difficult to communicate to others. I think technology has a great deal to offer in terms of improvements to patient care and it is an exciting time.

‘The future for me looks busy, partly thanks to Vatech! I still have a lot on my to-do list and not enough hours in the day.

We were already a referral practice accepting referrals from over 20 practices but, now we have our own imaging equipment, we can increase work volume and reduce turnaround times. We are in the process of developing a second site to keep up with the demand from patients and referring colleagues.’

In terms of keeping up with technology, Arjinder admits that he, like many dentists, likes a new gadget!

‘But,’ he says, ‘the most important thing to ask yourself when you’re looking to buy an imaging system is “what will having a machine mean to my regular day?” Do you truly have a need for such equipment (the same can be said of any large investment in your practice)?

Will it improve your work? Your patient journey? Will the cost be recovered or will it adversely affect your bottom line? Quite simply, you must take a good look at why you want such a machine. If you are truthful with yourself, you will make the right decision.’
